Kate Upton is on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue yet again, but her photo shoot for the cover wasn’t quite as fun as the one for last year’s cover.
The model, the camera crew, and the magazine’s editors made their way all the way to Antarctica to capture the perfect picture for the publication. 20-year-old Upton, who wears nothing but a white bikini bottom and an unzipped white parka on the cover, had to brave subzero temperatures on the continent for her role as the cover girl. Upton even faced frostbite and hypothermia for the shoot. She admitted, “When I came back, I was losing my hearing and eyesight. My body was shutting down because it was working so hard to keep me warm.”
Upton enjoyed the experience nonetheless. She calls Antarctica “one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to.” Sports Illustrated editors were happy with the results too, gushing, “everything about the picture is perfect.” Plus, they gave Upton plenty of praise for not being a “whiny model!”
