Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Release Date

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree launches on Friday, June 21st, 2024. This date was unveiled by Bandai Namco and FromSoftware in their official gameplay trailer. As paid DLC, it will be available for purchase by anyone who owns the base game on PC, PlayStation (PS4 & PS5), Xbox (One & Series S/X), and even Steam Deck.

Content Overload

Considering the massive size and playtime of Elden Ring itself, a $40 price tag might seem high. However, FromSoftware’s reputation for exceptional expansions in past titles like Bloodborne and Sekiro inspires confidence. After all, Elden Ring offered a sprawling world brimming with content, often keeping players engaged for over 100 hours. The hunger for more is undeniable!

Based on recent hands-on previews, there’s plenty to be excited about:

  • Over 100 new weapons
  • Eight entirely new weapon types
  • Ten formidable new bosses
  • A multitude of new dungeons, including legacy dungeons, medium-sized dungeons, and smaller ones (specific numbers haven’t been revealed)
  • An abundance of new spells, spirit ash summons, and ashes of war

The best part? All the weapons, spells, and skills you acquire in Shadow of the Erdtree can be brought back to the main Elden Ring game, allowing for even more build variety and strategic depth. Conversely, your existing arsenal and character progress will seamlessly carry over to the new Land of Shadow.

How to Access Elden Ring’s New Expansion?

To access Shadow of the Erdtree, you’ll need to have defeated two key bosses in the main game: Radahn and Mohg. Mohg, in particular, serves as a gatekeeper, ensuring players are sufficiently powerful to handle the challenges in the new area. Ideally, your character should be between level 120 and 150 for a smooth experience.

Once Mohg is defeated, head to Mohgwyn Palace and locate the newly-spawned giant fleshy ball with a withered arm. Interact with the arm, and you’ll be transported to the Land of Shadow, ready to embark on your next epic Elden Ring adventure.

How Big is Shadow of the Erdtree?

Shadow of the Erdtree is estimated to be roughly the size of Limgrave, the starting area in Elden Ring. While FromSoftware hasn’t revealed the exact size or the number of dungeons within the Land of Shadow, this comparison gives players a good idea of the scale of the new content.

With Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree on the horizon, sharpen your blades, Tarnished! The Lands Between beckon once more, with fresh dangers and triumphs awaiting.
