While the Mets deal is on hold, three teams are reportedly pursuing Carlos Correa

At least three teams have recently gotten in touch with Correa’s camp, but Correa is still determined to try to seal his deal with the Mets.

One source on Monday put the possibility of a deal between Correa and the Mets happening at 55 percent, suggesting there is still hope that it will happen. Adding contract language that shields the Mets from financial responsibility if Correa’s pre-existing condition kept him out for an extended period of time is one of the options.

The consensus, however, is that Correa, who strongly prefers to play for the Mets, isn’t amenable to changing the contract’s duration or financial obligations.

After sliding into third base as a minor leaguer in 2014 and breaking his right fibula and tearing ligaments, Correa underwent arthroscopic surgery. Correa has played in eight seasons in the major leagues and has never been injured to his right leg.

Two teams might be reluctant to offer him a lengthy contract, which would put L.A. in the sweet spot of shorter contracts with higher average annual values. It’s even possible that Correa decides to sign a contract that is similar to the one he accepted from the Twins last offseason, which was a three-year deal with an opt-out after the first year.

If Correa had another year of a healthy leg on his record, he might be able to cash in on that big deal the following year because he would be younger than Trea Turner and Xander Bogaerts were this year.

He’ll probably still sign a contract that is much longer than the Dodgers would prefer. But L.A. is still a possibility.
