Fans of the terrifying interactive horror Until Dawn finally have some concrete news, but it’s not quite the release date announcement we were all hoping for.

Until Dawn Remake Gets New Trailer, Confirmed for Fall 2024 Release on PS5 and PC

During the recent State of Play May 2024 presentation, Sony unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming remake and confirmed a release window of fall 2024 for both PlayStation 5 and PC.

Originally launched for PS4 in 2015, Until Dawn puts players in the shoes of eight friends who return to a secluded lodge where two of their group vanished under mysterious circumstances a year prior. The narrative unfolds with branching storylines heavily influenced by player choices, with dire consequences for those who make the wrong call.

This remake boasts a significant visual upgrade thanks to Unreal Engine 5. Players can expect stunning visuals with improved textures, lighting, and a wider color palette compared to the original. The most notable change, however, is the shift to a third-person perspective, offering a fresh way to experience the chilling story. Developer Ballistic Moon, taking over from original developer Supermassive Games, has also implemented contextual character animations to further enhance immersion.

The news of an Until Dawn remake has been a long time coming. While the original release received critical acclaim, the game’s fluctuating frame rate – dipping as low as 20 FPS – was a sticking point for some players. The remake aims to address this issue by offering a smoother and more visually polished experience.

For those unfamiliar with Until Dawn, developer Supermassive Games has since become a horror powerhouse, known for their “The Dark Pictures Anthology” series. However, Until Dawn remains a fan favorite and a major title for the studio.

While an exact release date within the fall window remains TBA, a late-October release seems likely. Additionally, the presentation hinted at an upcoming Until Dawn movie, though details are scarce. Stay tuned for further developments on both the remake and the film adaptation.
