Model turned tv host Tyra Banks has offered up her top personal makeup application tips, explaining how she applies her makeup to look flawless and highlight her features. She thinks it’s important to first add an eyeshadow and it needs to be applied quite precise, so she advises only applying in a place where you’ll have a steady hand:
“The first thing I do is sweep a brown shadow stick along my top and bottom lashes. I just slap it on—the messier, the better. Then I smudge the heck out of it with my finger. I’ll get up into the creases if I want more depth and definition. But do your eyes in a safe zone like a bathroom or at your desk before getting into a moving car.”
Speaking on applying eyeliner, Tyra reveals that she used to be very bad at getting liner right, but she has slowly become better and thinks it’s all about having the right product on hand. She likes to have a correcter product so that she can quickly fix mistakes as she works on it:
“My liner game used to be a hot mess. I fussed with Q-tips and makeup remover to fix my boo-boos, but everything would smear. That’s the reason I designed my Oops Liner with a liner liquid on one end and a corrector on the other. Now I just go for it, because I can sharpen those wings instantly. You don’t need any skills! Then I hit my lashes with at least three coats of mascara. Twirl the wand as you swipe for clump-free application.”
Tyra loves applying lipstick and can even successfully add a full pout without a mirror. She likes to add just one layer for a simple daytime look but builds up a more dramatic shade when it’s for an event or evening out:
“It’s my jam. And my application is always on point, even without a mirror. I’ll do a swipe in the center of my top and bottom lips with my mouth open, then press my lips together to smooth out the color. A rosy shade that’s somewhere between a balm and a stain, like my What Lipstick? in Ask for a Raise, is sheer gorgeousness. For everyday, one swipe is effortlessly chic. But for more ‘shazam,’ I’ll pile on a few layers.”
