When exploring the sewers under Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll eventually encounter the unstable mage Aelis Siryasius. You can deal with this greasy wizard in a couple different ways, but should you kill him?
To Kill or Not to Kill: Dealing with Aelis Siryasius in Baldur’s Gate 3
Though possible to leave Aelis alive after an initial persuasion check, it’s best to plan his demise when you first meet him. By catching him off guard and eliminating the threat, you gain permanent access to the treasures and puzzles in his den, including Sarin’s Skeleton.
The reason being that no matter what, Aelis will turn hostile when you return later. Passing his initial persuasion only grants you temporary passage. So it’s better to remove the dangerous instability from the area when you have the chance.
However, don’t initiate an attack during your dialogue. When you first meet him, Aelis will mistake you for a member of the Absolute. Convince him otherwise and he’ll tolerate you briefly. Use this time to plan your attack and get in some early hits against him and his elementals.
With Aelis dead, you can safely solve Sarin’s Skeleton and claim the riches of his lair. Just be sure to leave the sewers for the Undercity Ruins first in order to find the solution.
Killing Aelis Siryasius immediately allows free reign of his den without having to worry about future hostility. Though you could leave him be temporarily, it’s safest long-term to take him out of the picture in Baldur’s Gate 3.
