The Mets are seeking language protections to reduce their risk if Correa suffers a lower leg injury.
According to the report, the original terms of the deal, which are estimated to be $315 million over 12 years, may not change much. A portion of that money, however, may become non-guaranteed.
This is exactly what one journalist predicted would happen. Correa has no reason to return to the open market because he is unlikely to receive a comparable offer elsewhere.
His best chance of exceeding $300 million is with the Mets, and if he stays healthy, he will earn the full amount he agreed to.
