The leaked Counter-Strike: Source map that inspired Left 4 Dead is now playable

WolfCl0ck, a mod developer, has tweaked the map, dubbed Zombie City, and made it available for download. Aacording to WolfCl0ck, this map is related to the prototype of Left 4 Dead, back when Turtle Rock was calling the project Terror Strike. You can see this mod below.

Counter-Strike: Source map leaked “Zombie City is a map created by Valve that was released today as part of the map sources folder,” WolfCl0ck explained of the mod. “It is likely the starting point of Left 4 Dead, and for those of you who have heard the name ‘Terror-Strike’ before, you will love to get the chance to play this prototype level.” To make the map run smoothly, the Zombie City mod modifies the textures and adds a nav mesh to the original map.

Terrorists in Zombie City are tasked with planting a bomb while fending off an endless wave of undead counter-terrorists who can only use melee attacks. According to YouTuber Tyler McVicker, the leaked map represents developer Turtle Rock’s original prototyped vision for a multiplayer shooter infested with a zombie horde, which piqued Valve’s interest, leading to the creation of Left 4 Dead. Until now, only a few screenshots from Turtle Rock’s Terror Strike project have been seen.
