Country star Taylor Swift is known for using her past relationship experiences as her main source of inspiration when she’s writing songs. Her latest single ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together‘ is aimed at a particular ex-boyfriend who she is happy to torment with the song lyrics. Taylor says that the song tells of her feelings during the relationship and how that particular guy made her feel:
“(It’s) a definitive portrait of how I felt when I finally stopped caring what my ex thought of me. (He) made me feel like I wasn’t as good or as relevant as these hipster bands he listened to…”
She admits that the song was written to “drive him crazy” whenever he hears it and she hopes he’ll hear it a lot because it holds a special message to him about the way she was made feel about her music style:
“So I made a song that I knew would absolutely drive him crazy when he heard it on the radio. Not only would it hopefully be played a lot, so that he’d have to hear it, but it’s the opposite of the kind of music that he was trying to make me feel inferior to.”
When asked why she would want to make her ex feel this way, she joked:
“Because that’s fun.”
