Taylor Schilling, star of the hit tv show ‘Orange is the New Black’, has spoken on her approach to beauty, revealing that she doesn’t like to focus so much on her looks alone because she believes she has much more to offer than just appearances. She commented that she hopes the world can see more in her:
“I don’t feel bound by my face or my body. I don’t feel like that’s the biggest gift I have to offer the world. I feel like there are more parts of me to offer than that.”
Taylor recalls feeling very ugly growing up, and admits it was a tough period in her life which is still painful today. She had short hair and glasses, and felt bad about herself for a long time because of how she looked:
“It was tough at home, and it was tough at school…. And my experience was painful, so painful. There was a period of time I had very short hair, and I had glasses, and I was very tall for my age.”
The actress finds the fashion and beauty on the set of ‘Orange is the New Black’ to be very freeing, because the prison setting means they wear the same clothes and very minimal/natural makeup, so she never has to worry about how she looks or what she’s wearing on a daily basis:
“It’s totally liberating. There’s freedom in not having to make it about how my jeans fit or what my boobs look like in a top. All I have to do now is play.”
