Well, duh. Taylor Swift is known for taking heavy inspiration from her love life and putting her experiences directly into her songs. The singer has confirmed that one of her songs is all about her relationship with British boyband member Harry Styles, which is the reason why she gave such a spirited performance at the recent Brit Awards – because he was there watching and she wanted to send a message. She says that ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ is all about him and the reason why she lit up the stage:
‘Well, it’s not hard to access that emotion when the person the song is directed at is standing by the side of the stage watching.’
Taylor comments further than to give a good performance of any song you have to tap back into the emotion she was feeling when she first wrote it and relive that tale again, because you can see everything pour out of her on the stage and that emotion becomes apparent to the audience which is what makes a performance so memorable:
‘You’re balancing the analytical side of your brain which is telling you where to go and how to go there, with the other side of your brain, which is saying “Feel everything you’re singing, and show it on your face. Feel everything exactly as you felt it when you wrote the song.”‘
