Drew Barrymore stirred up controversy by saying that women can’t have it all, because they have to choose between family or work. Ironically, the new mom doesn’t seem to be having a problem with the balance at all, recently admitting that she was fitting in business meetings during her daughter Olive’s nap time. She basically seems to have it all – time with her daughter, acting opportunities if she wants them and control over two other businesses. Still, she thinks there is something gone astray and that women still need to make the choice, while saying she has done just that:
“I was raised in that generation where it was all, ‘Women can have it all!’ and I don’t think you can. I think something falls off the table. The good thing is that the things that stay on the table become so much more important. You have to choose your battles. I can’t direct movies right now; I would miss out on my daughter (Olive, 6 months). And I worked so hard to get to that point in my life, but it was a clear choice. I just had to make it.”
When asked if she plans to become a lifestyle guru, Drew says that might be on the cards but for now she is just learning how to cope in life and is trying not to take things so seriously like some others (is this a little subtle dig at Gwyneth Paltrow?!):
“Whatever it is – it could be a beauty line, a movie, a cookbook (I’ll get there one day, but not yet. No one wants to eat my food, trust me) – maintain a sense of humor! It gets so serious out there. I love a good fart joke!”
