British fashion designer Stella McCartney has partnered with upcoming movie Maleficent to create an adorable new line of clothing for kids inspired by the yet to be released film. Stella commented on the new exciting fashion collaboration, saying she was invited by the star of the film, Angelina Jolie, to visit the set and see the costumes created for the film to gather inspiration. Stella says she was also influenced by the Disney films she watched as a child when designing the new pieces and was very enthusiastic about taking on the new design project:
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Disney growing up, as was my mother, and I grew up watching all the films like most kids did. When the opportunity presented itself and I was invited by Angelina Jolie to visit the film set, I jumped at the chance.”
Stella added that she was also wowed by the darkness of the Maleficent character because she thinks it can create a striking visual and she was inspired by that:
“There is a bit of a darkness to ‘Maleficent’ which can be really scary at times but at the same time visually brilliant.”
The new collection will be available through Disney and Stella McCartney stores, and will include designs for both boys and girls aged 4 to 14. The pieces come with a slight designer price tag, retailing for between $75 and $185. 10% of sales made in Stella McCartney stores and on the designer’s website will go to SOS Children’s Villages, raising funds for underprivileged children.
