The Gauntlet of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3 presents a series of challenging trials, starting with the stealth-focused Soft-Step Trial. Getting through this maze undetected takes proper preparation and strategy with your rogue. Here’s how to complete the Soft-Step Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Sneaking Through the Soft-Step Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3
The goal of the Soft-Step trial is straightforward: reach the end of the maze without getting caught. Shadows patrol the corridors, and they can only see in the direction they move. If they spot you, you’re back to square one.
Preparation is Key
Before you begin, disarm traps and unlock doors to make the trial easier. When you’re ready, interact with the Shar offering bowl to initiate the trial.
Navigating the Maze
Choose a stealthy character to lead the way. Enter through the center door and avoid pulling levers, as they might not make things easier.
Wait for a shadow to pass, then head to the upper door it came from, avoiding traps. Here, you have two choices:
- The Long Route: If you go right through the next doorway, be cautious of the shadow patrolling the hall. Move quickly along the left wall, hiding, until you reach the next doorway. When the shadow passes, go through and head up the stairs.
- Shortcut: Jump through the small upper window for a quicker path. Head forward and right up the stairs.
Claim Your Reward
Both paths lead to a locked iron door. Lockpick it to find the Umbral Gem. Interact with the statue to return to the entrance and continue your journey through the Gauntlet.
Having conquered the Soft-Step trial, you’re now equipped with the Umbral Gem—an artifact that holds the key to uncovering the Gauntlet’s mysteries. The adventure continues with the Self-Same trial, promising more challenges and revelations as you journey through Baldur’s Gate 3.
