Scarlett Johansson has admitted that she always fears that her career will come to an abrupt end, but it’s just the nature of the industry she works in and there isn’t anything that can put her at ease. She feels that especially after wrapping up work on one film, she feels as though it will always be her last and that no one will hire her again. She admits however that Hollywood has already been extremely kind to her:
”I feel fortunate enough to be able to fool everyone into thinking that I’m capable. But it’s true, you know what I mean? I think every actor, when you finish a job you’re like, ‘Oh man, that’ll probably be the last time I ever work again… It’s a volatile industry. One that’s been very kind to me. But I think always in the back of your head you’re preparing for, you know, absolute demise, the inevitable decline of your career. That’s just an actor’s neurosis, I think!”
Speaking on her breakthrough role in ‘The Horse Whisperer’, Scarlett comments that the experience transformed her at the time, and she even reveals that she turned down some bigger teen movies because she was waiting for her perfect role:
”[‘The Horse Whisperer‘] It was a huge, transformative experience for me as a young actor. I made a lot of discoveries about the process on that job. I avoided a lot of the teen movies that were popular at the time and just waited for stuff to come that felt right and kind of rare.”
