Pokemon GO Holiday Cup Ultra League: Best Pokemon Team
Aurorus (Rock- and Ice-type)Since the game’s inception, Aurorus has struggled to find ways to stay relevant. Fortunately, the Holiday Cup appears to be its big break. Because it has such a limited list of eligible creatures, the counters that would absolutely decimate Aurorus will be unable to participate, leaving it as one of the best Ice-type defenders.
However, players considering using Aurorus should be wary of choices such as Abombasnow and Shadow Charizard. Aurorus may appear to have the upper hand in these matchups, but the Pokemon can be quickly overwhelmed by Charged Attacks.
Regice (Ice-type)Regice has high defensive stats, and the Legendary Pokemon can perform multiple Charged Attacks in a row with its Lock-On move. However, because it is a Legendary Pokemon, it is another option that players may have difficulty locating. Regice is a surprisingly good choice for this upcoming event, but given its pure Ice typing, it should be used as an opening lead rather than a safe switch.
Altered Giratina (Dragon- and Ghost-type)Altered Giratina has high defense and stamina stats, as well as being a Dragon/Ghost-type Pokemon. Few creatures can inflict fatal damage on Giratina without it retaliating tenfold. While catching a Legendary Pokemon may be difficult, choosing Giratina would be a wise choice for many players because the Pokemon would provide excellent defense against other opponents.
Other great choices
For those who do not have access to the aforementioned Legendary Pokemon, here is a list of other excellent options that are much more common in Pokemon GO:
- Kyurem
- Abomasnow
- Magnezone
- Charizard
- Dubwool
- Piloswine
- Alolan Sandslash
Since the Holiday Cup’s criteria are primarily designed to benefit Ice-type Pokemon, those with that typing will typically perform best. Having one or two Ice-type Pokemon for defense is not a bad idea because they are the only Pokemon that have resistance to other Ice-types.
