There are 10 games scheduled for Wednesday in the NBA, including the Western Conference duel between the Dallas Mavericks and the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.
After splitting their previous three meetings with Denver, Dallas hopes to sweep the four-game regular season series.
The latest injury injury update for Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks
The Nuggets could be undermanned for their matchup with the Mavericks.
The Denver Nuggets may be concerned about their upcoming game against the Dallas Mavericks without Jamal Murray or Aaron Gordon, but they can take solace in their previous successes over the Mavericks.
On November 20 in Dallas, Denver beat the Mavericks 98-97 despite being without Murray, Gordon, and Nikola Jokic.
At stake on Wednesday night in Denver is the season series between the Mavericks and the Nuggets, which the Mavericks can win if they are able to repeat their one-point victory from December 6.
Coach Michael Malone has speculated that Murray’s five-game absence due to right knee soreness may be related to his efforts to protect his surgically repaired left knee. The injury is not considered to be too significant, but the Nuggets have held him out of the lineup anyway.
While both Murray and Gordon are labeled as questionable for Wednesday’s game, it’s expected that Murray will sit out in order to give his knee more than three weeks to heal during the All-Star break.
Gordon’s left rib contusion caused him to miss two games, and his ailing shoulder has kept him out for the majority of the year.
Without their second and third leading scorers, Denver has had to adapt.
The Nuggets went 2-1 on the road with to victories in Charlotte on Saturday and Miami on Monday night. They will remain at the top of the Western Conference following Wednesday.
While Nikola Jokic led the Nuggets with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists, the team’s bench contributed significantly to the 112-108 victory over the Heat.
After the Mavericks traded for Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets, the Nuggets will get their first and, barring a postseason rematch, only glimpse at the team’s new look.
Both of Dallas’ games with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving have ended in defeat, but there is still time to work out the kinks.
The Mavericks appeared to take heart from Monday night’s three-point setback to the Timberwolves.
Doncic finished with 33 points, Irving with 36, and 26 of their combined total came in the final period. The Mavericks had a chance to tie in the waning seconds, but Irving turned it over.
The Mavericks could be receiving more talent soon, but not in time to face Jokic.
On Monday night, ESPN announced that LaMarcus Aldridge would be working out for Dallas the following day. Seven-time All-Star Aldridge has yet to appear for Brooklyn this season despite averaging 12.9 points and 5.5 rebounds in 47 games last year.
Adding Aldridge to the Mavericks would provide them another defensive option and depth in the frontcourt. In order to acquire Irving, Dallas had to trade away one of its greatest defenders, Dorian Finney-Smith, to the Nets.
Reportedly, Denver is signing Reggie Jackson and will have him on board after the All-Star break. Once Charlotte acquired Jackson from the Los Angeles Clippers at the trade deadline, they decided to buy him out.
KEY INJURIES FOR BOTH TEAMS:
The Nuggets are without Jamal Murray (hamstring) and the Mavericks are without Maxi Kleber (hamstring) and Davis Bertans (calf) (knee).
