His assistant Joe Mazzulla has taken over as interim head coach, but Ime Udoka’s future as a Celtics head coach is uncertain after this suspension.
League executives do not think Ime Udoka will comeback as Celtics head coach
All of the talk about Draymond has diverted attention away from Udoka, who was the most talked about after the Celtics suspended their head coach for the 2022-23 season for having a relationship with a Celtics staffer, which was against team rules.
There is a lot more to this situation than what we have found out so far, but what we know for sure is that Udoka won’t be on the sidelines for the coming season, at the very least.
The NBA has had a wild few months. We had Kevin Durant requesting a trade, which sent shockwaves throughout the basketball world, and Draymond Green recently punched Jordan Poole during practice.
The video was somehow leaked to TMZ, which exacerbated the situation, and all of this is sandwiched between the Ime Udoka situations.
Adrian Wojnarowski also stated that it would be difficult for Udoka to be reinstated as head coach next year, which is unfortunate if things do end this way.
The Celtics under Udoka appeared to be a force for years to come, but his actions ruined everything, putting the Celtics’ female employees in a difficult situation.
His assistant Joe Mazzulla has taken over as interim head coach, but Udoka’s future as a Celtics coach is uncertain after this suspension.
He allegedly had an affair with the wife of a minority owner of the team, and it appears that the only reason he wasn’t fired was because it was the offseason, giving them time to investigate.
According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype, who has spoken with league executives about the situation, Udoka will not return as head coach next year.
Via Hoops Hype:
“I spoke with four NBA executives this week about the Ime Udoka situation in Boston. Each of those four executives told Hoops Hype they don’t think Udoka will return as coach of the Boston Celtics after his yearlong suspension is done.”
While Udoka’s time with the Celtics has come to an end, it appears that his coaching career is far from over, as there are teams interested in him due to his proven ability as a coach.
Rival teams are attempting to comprehend the gravity of the situation as they assess him as a future candidate.
