Latest Update for Sacramento Kings and Oklahoma City Thunder Injury

THE KINGS

The Sacramento Kings return to action on Sunday against the host Oklahoma City Thunder, only two days after participating in the second-highest scoring game in NBA history.

After Friday’s 176-175 double-overtime victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, the Kings will likely need more than a day to recover. Sacramento was led by Malik Monk’s 45 points, a career high, off the bench. De’Aaron Fox also scored 42 points.

The 44 3-pointers made by both teams were a tie for the most ever in an NBA game.

The Kings trailed by 14 points with with two minutes remaining in regulation and again in overtime, but they came back to win.

In Thursday’s 133-116 win over the Trail Blazers, Sabonis played 32 minutes and recorded 18 points (6-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 18 rebounds, 10 assists, and three steals.

With his sixth triple-double of the season, Sabonis surpassed Chris Webber for the Sacramento-era record. This Friday, Sabonis will face a Clippers team missing Ivica Zubac (calf), and he has been a top-20 player in 9-category leagues over the past eight games.

With 23 games left in the regular season, Sacramento is 9 games above.500 thanks in large part to Fox’s 30+ point performances in 6 straight games.

After 16 consecutive losing seasons, the Kings are looking to snap the worst playoff drought in NBA history and have started strong by winning their first two games after the All-Star break.

Sacramento’s stunning victory over the Clippers on Saturday may prove to be a turning moment as the team looks to close the 1 1/2 game gap to second-place Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference.

There’s no injuries for the Kings on this match today.

THE THUNDER

For the time being, Sacramento will focus on its next road games against Oklahoma City, where All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander may be unavailable for a second straight game.

On Friday, Gilgeous-Alexander sat out due to a painful right ankle and a strained left hip flexor, which led to the team’s 124-115 loss against the Phoenix Suns.

While Gilgeous-Alexander was out with an injury, Isaiah Joe stepped up to the plate and dropped a career-high 28 points on the Phoenix Suns. The third-year guard was 11-of-17 from the field and 6-of-12 from beyond the arc.

Oklahoma City’s Joe has pleasantly surprised with 12.2 points per game on 50 percent shooting from the field and 47.5 percent from deep in nine games this month.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault praised Joe for his contributions on defense.

Second-year guard Josh Giddey contributes 16.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game to Oklahoma City’s promising young lineup.

The Thunder lost 118-113 to the Kings on January 20 despite a game-high 37 points from Gilgeous-Alexander.

Oklahoma City has dominated the Kings at home, winning 19 of the last 24 matchups between the two teams.
