25-year-old music star Kesha doesn’t believe in splashing her cash and says she rarely goes shopping, and when she does, she’s attracted to cheap things. She says that money isn’t something that makes her happy and that she has even wrote songs about the subject matter in the past because it’s something close to her heart:
“I’m not frivolous, I never go shopping. And I love cheap costume jewelry. An underlying theme [of my first album, Animal] was how you can be broke and still have fun. Money doesn’t determine whether I’m happy. But it’s really fun to get light-up shoes.”
Commenting on her often controversial lyrics, Kesha says that she simply writes about what she’s going through and tries to express her own personality through her music. She says she also likes to have funny lyrics and hopes her sense of humor is obvious through her words:
“The first record was a celebration of partying and being young, but this record’s a better look at my personality. Whatever, I drink like a champion. But I can also do other stuff. I have a sense of humor about my lyrics. I’m not a train wreck, I’m just having fun.”
Speaking on often being thought of as a rapper, Kesha says that the idea was weird to her at first:
“The first time someone called me a rapper, I started laughing. I was shocked, and thought it was hilarious. But then, Andre 3000 was telling me how he thinks I’m a good rapper. And Wiz, who’s a good friend of mine, thinks I’m a good rapper? Snoop? It’s crazy and funny to me.”
