Joey Gallo’s injury news is GOOD after leaving Friday’s game early

Joey Gallo, a first baseman for the Minnesota Twins, will not play on Saturday due to an injury, though it appears to be minor.

According to Do-Hyoung Park, Twins manager Rocco Baldelli stated that Gallo’s absence is considered day-to-day after receiving “good news” from his imaging results.

Gallo had been experiencing right-side soreness all week and was removed from Friday’s game against the Houston Astros after two plate appearances.

He started the Twins’ first five games before coming off the bench as a pinch hitter in the sixth game on Wednesday.

During the first week of the season, Gallo appeared to be focused. He hit two moonshot home runs on Sunday, followed by another on Monday, driving in seven runs over the two games.

Gallo was one of the pull hitters from the left side who the baseball world predicted would benefit from the new shift rules. If he continues to hit bombs, a shift or no shift will make no difference.

Gallo hit 40 home runs in consecutive seasons in 2017 and 2018, but he has been correctly labeled a “home run or strikeout” hitter.

According to Baseball Reference, Gallo has averaged 38 home runs and 225 strikeouts per 162 games over his nine-year career (including 2023).

The Twins are off to a fast start in 2023, with a 5-2 record entering the second weekend. This positive update on Joey Gallo should bring a sigh of relief to Twins fans, as Minnesota is aiming for a division title.
