When the Memphis Grizzlies (35-22) play the Philadelphia 76ers (38-19) on Thursday night, they will try to win for the second time in a row. Memphis is 6-4 against Philadelphia in its last 10 games.
Injury Reports Memphis Grizzlies – Philadelphia 76ers
THE SIXERS
The 76ers have been on a roll lately, having won four straight games leading up to tonight’s game. They’re on a roll and looking to beat the Grizzlies for their fifth straight victory.
Joel Embiid, an All-Star who scored 32 points for Team LeBron at the All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, will continue to be the key to the Sixers’ success.
Embiid averages 33.1 points per game and is second in the league, just behind Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, who averages 33.3.
Even though his left foot has been hurting him for a few weeks, Embiid decided to play on Sunday. As the playoffs get closer, it will be something to keep an eye on.
Since 2001, when they won, the Sixers haven’t been to the Eastern Conference Finals. They have a lot of talent, led by the duo of Joel Embiid and James Harden, that will help them get there.
After winning the slam dunk contest, it’s not clear what role Mac McClung might play for the 76ers.
Injury reports: None.
THE GRIZZLIES
The Grizzlies’ recent victory over the Jazz marked a strong response to their previous loss to Boston. They hope that another victory over the 76ers will keep the winning streak alive and give them their fourth victory in their last five games.
The Grizzlies think they are ready to make their case when they play the Sixers on Thursday.
Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant both played in the All-Star Game. This was the first time that two Grizzlies were in the game at the same time.
This is also a result of winning, which the Grizzlies have done by going 35-22 this season. Only three times in the history of the team have they won 35 games before the All-Star break.
In 19 straight games, Ja Morant has had at least 20 points. In his last eight games, the 23-year-old has averaged 8.3 rebounds per game, which is great.
Injury reports: Luke Kennard (Illness) and Steven Adams (Knee).
Adams won’t be able to play against the 76ers on Thursday because of a knee injury, says Chris Herrington of The Daily Memphian.
Adams hasn’t played since late January because he sprained the PCL in his right knee. He won’t play in the Grizzlies’ first game after the All-Star break, either.
Even though coach Taylor Jenkins didn’t say that Adams wouldn’t be able to play on Saturday against the Nuggets, it doesn’t look like the center will be able to come back over the weekend.
Kennard will miss this game because he is sick with something that is not COVID.
Kennard has only been with the Grizzlies for a week and has only played in two games. He seems to be sick and will need an extra night off before the second half starts.
John Konchar and David Roddy should get to play more because of his absence, while Kennard will rest up for his next chance to play on Saturday against the Nuggets.
