INJURY REPORTS of Jaylen Waddle
Injury:
Injury status: Active
UPDATE (JAN. 05): Waddle (shoulder) took part in limited practice on Wednesday, according to Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald.
UPDATE (DEC. 18): In the Dolphins’ 32-29 loss to the Bills on Saturday night, Waddle caught three of seven targets for 114 yards and a touchdown.
UPDATE (Dec. 13): Waddle (fibula) gained 31 yards on two of four targets in the Chargers’ 23-17 loss on Sunday.
UPDATE: Waddle (fibula) was among several Dolphins players listed as limited at Wednesday’s practice, according to the Miami Herald’s Daniel Oyefusi.
In the Dolphins’ 35-32 win over the Bears on Sunday, Waddle caught five of seven targets for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Waddle finished second overall to the other half of the Dolphins’ elite wideout duo, Tyreek Hill. However, it was another productive fantasy performance for the second-year wideout, who now has six touchdown receptions on the season, half of which have come in the last two games.
Waddle has also had at least Sunday’s yardage total in four straight games and at least seven targets in three of those games, giving him plenty of momentum heading into a home game against the Browns in Week 10.
Waddle is no exception to the rule that early-first-round rookie wide receivers have a lot of early-career success.
In his first season, the sixth overall pick in 2021 finished no lower than tenth in targets, receptions, and catch rate. Waddle’s upside was limited by his short-area role (7.0 aDOT in the 10th percentile) and a lack of goal line work (three end zone targets), but he still finished 14th in fantasy.
Waddle appears to be the real deal, though he may struggle to make a leap forward in 2022 with Tyreek Hill joining the mix.
