The New York Yankees do not intend to make Isiah Kiner-Falefa their starting shortstop in 2023.
Another Yankees – Twins trade in the works?
IKF was acquired alongside Josh Donaldson last offseason, and he was always viewed as a shortstop fill-in. He came with two years of control and a six-million-dollar contract from New York earlier this offseason.
However, there have been rumblings since the start of the offseason that IKF’s time in New York is coming to an end. Several outlets with Yankees ties have mentioned IKF’s name in trade discussions. This is not an accident. New York has been looking to see if any teams are interested in Kiner-Falefa’s services.
The Twins, who sent IKF to the Yankees, are involved in a trade that appears to make perfect sense.
While Kepler’s numbers aren’t the most enticing, his lefty bat would add some balance to the lineup and he doesn’t strike out frequently. With the new rules coming into effect next year, it is thought that Kepler would be an ideal bounce back candidate.
The Twins were interested in both Carlos Correa and Danby Swanson but were unable to land either. They require a shortstop, and the Yankees have one with whom they are familiar.

I still believe that Bryan Reynolds is New York’s top outfield target, but if that trade doesn’t happen, don’t be surprised if Kepler comes to the Bronx and IKF leaves.
