Spurs vs. Jazz injurie: 4 Questionable, 6 Out

THE JAZZ

The Utah Jazz (30-31, 33-28 ATS) have been pretty inconsistent lately, going 5-5 SU in their last ten games. Last Thursday, they beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 120-119 in overtime at home to end a losing streak of three games.

  • Lauri Markkanen – Active

Lauri Markkanen beat the Thunder by scoring 43 points, including three free throws with only 4.6 seconds left in overtime. Jordan Clarkson had 24 points and six assists, and Walker Kessler, who was just a rookie, had 7 points, 18 rebounds, and 7 blocks.

Markkanen had an average first half, scoring 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field. However, none of the five three-point shots he tried were successful. After a slow third quarter, the power forward scored 18 points on 8 of 12 shots in the fourth quarter, which helped send the game into overtime. Markkanen had the most points in the game with 43, and he also had the most rebounds with 10. This was his second straight double-double.

He has now had three straight games with at least 29 points, during which he shot 47.8 percent from the field.

Rudy Gay might not be able to play because he broke his nose in Thursday’s game against Oklahoma City when he collided with Lauri Markkanen. He will try to play through it, probably with a mask.

Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune says that Potter will have surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. He will be checked again in 4 to 6 weeks.

Potter has been in the G League for the last few weeks, but he will be out for a long time because of an injury to his right elbow. He might be able to come back before the end of the G League season, but once he’s looked at again, we’ll know more about his situation.

Before getting hurt, he averaged 14.3 points, 11.3, and 31.5 minutes per game for the Stars during the regular season.

Due to a sprained right ankle, Olynyk might not be able to play against the Spurs on Saturday.

Olynyk has been playing well lately. He has scored at least 10 points in seven straight games (15.6 PPG) and has added 7.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 29.7 minutes of play time.

Sexton (hamstring) didn’t practice on Wednesday and won’t play against the Thunder on Thursday or the Spurs on Sunday. He will be re-evaluated on Monday.

THE SPURS

The San Antonio Spurs (14-46; 24-36 ATS) have lost 15 straight games after losing to the Dallas Mavericks 142-116 on Thursday.

It’s the longest losing run in franchise history, as the Spurs obviously want to have the best chances to land the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

  • Keldon Johnson – Active

In Thursday’s 142-116 loss to the Mavericks, Keldon Johnson finished with 22 points (8-13 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 5-5 FT), 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 1 steal in 31 minutes.

With Tre Jones (foot) and Devin Vassell (knee) still out, Johnson is by far the Spurs’ most skilled offensive player.
