In an unexpected move Saturday afternoon, the Buffalo Bills did not promote quarterback Matt Barkley from the practice squad, implying that Josh Allen could play against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at Highmark Stadium.

If Matt Barkley had been activated, the Bills would have had three quarterbacks potentially available on Sunday, indicating the absence of the MVP frontrunner.
Expect more official confirmation from the team before Sunday’s 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, but for now, the lack of a Barkley elevation is significant.
Allen suffered an elbow injury late in last week’s loss to the Jets, then did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday, and all signs pointed to him handing over the starting job to backup Case Keenum.
Allen, on the other hand, was listed as a limited participant in Friday’s practice and was ruled questionable for the game in the final injury report of the week, leaving the door open for him to potentially play.
