Update Injury for Golden State Warriors vs. Sacramento Kings
According to the traditional adage, a series does not officially begin until someone wins an away game. You can now consider this series to have properly started, as the Kings lost 3-2 at home on Wednesday. They must now win on the road in San Francisco or the series will be finished.
On Wednesday, the Kings took an early lead, but fell behind in the second half and were unable to bridge the deficit.
De’Aaron Fox, the Kings’ best player, was wearing a splint after breaking the end of his finger. Nonetheless, he finished with a team-high 24 points and 9 assists. Fox is not on the injured list, so he should be fine.
Damontas Sabonis chipped in with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Sabonis was incredible on Wednesday, recording a double-double for the third time in the series and scoring 20 points for only the second time.
Despite struggling to show efficiency against the Warriors’ frontcourt, the star big man is still averaging 17.2 points and 11.6 rebounds per game in the series.
The Warriors dropped the first two games of this series, both in Sacramento, and it appeared that the guard was changing out west.
However, the Warriors won two games at home and stole game four, which the Kings had led and should have won. But the Warriors’ survival and 2-2 tie in the series proved a game changer, and that energy carried over to Wednesday night, when the Warriors won 123-116 to grab a 3-2 series lead.
Steph Curry did his thing, scoring 31 points and dishing up 8 assists while shooting just 2 of 10 from beyond the arc.
Curry has now scored at least 30 points in four of his five playoff games. In the first round, he’s averaging 31.4 points per game and shooting 36.7 percent from long.
Klay Thompson, his other splash brother, contributed 25 points, while Draymond Green found some offense with 21 points and 7 assists.
