When Katy Perry arrived on the red carpet of the MuchMusic Video Music Awards in Toronto during the weekend, she was greeted by a crowd of young girls, each of whom were dressed in a variety of looks inspired by her many elaborate music video costumes. The little girls’ outfits range from cute to possibly quite inappropriate. One that made headlines in particular had faux cupcakes on her would-be breasts, if she was old enough to have any that is. Another girl wore a Marilyn Monroe outfit, and there were several extremely figure-hugging outfits that looked weirdly grown up.
On one hand, this is cute and suits Katy’s girly girl/playful image, but there is also something vaguely wrong with it, if you want to get into the sexualization of young girls side of things. Katy looks overjoyed to pose with the girls, and they all look like they’re having harmless fun at the event, so no damage done – would you let your daughter wear the cupcake ensemble?
