Here, we’ll walk you through the steps needed to solve Charles Rookwood’s Trial Puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy, a mandatory part of the game’s main storyline.
How to solve Charles Rookwood’s Trial puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy
There are four small puzzles in total, and we will solve them one at a time:
First puzzle
The Charles Rookwood’s Trial puzzles, like Percival Rackham’s Trial, all involve the Veil Portal. Each room has two versions, and you’ll need to pass through the portal several times to find a solution. There will also be blocks/pillars that can be moved with Wingardium Leviosa.
- Interact with the Ancient Magic font as you progress up the steps.
- Go through the portal to remove the barrier, then open the chest
- Place the block as close to the opposite edge as possible.
- Go through the portal once more and climb up the pillar.
Second puzzle
- Pass through the portal to make the block on your left movable. Bring it nearer using your magic. Return to the portal to materialize the chest and open it.
- Make sure the portal is blue. This will let you move the block in front of you. Use Accio/Wingardium Leviosa to pull the block toward you and through the portal.
- Hit the swtich o change the orientation of the portal and reveal a forward path.
Third puzzle
- Switch the portal to your right, then save your current progress (important). You can also open the chest.
- Continue to the right, passing through the portal. Cast Wingardium Leviosa and raise the block until it reaches the platform. If you make a mistake, the block will fall into the pit, forcing you to reload.
- Pass through the portal once more to open the chest.
- Go through the portal once more. Then, while standing on the right, hit the switch. This allows you to proceed to the next area.
Fourth puzzle
- This puzzle has a couple of Pensieve Knight enemies, one of whom is always invisible. You must go through the portal to see that foe.
- Once they’ve been defeated, go behind the portal but not through it (or, at the very least, make sure it’s blue). Aim for the block and pull it into the portal. After that, return it to its original position. We did this to ensure that when we turn the portal red, the block will transform into a pillar.
- Hit the switch to see if you can climb the ledge from the pillar.
- When you reach the top, press the switch again to connect the platform to the opposite side.
Extra chest
- You’ll notice a small room to your left in the next area.
- Look through the portal and press the switch to make it spin.
- Take a look at the portal and aim for the block once it changes shape. Drop it on the ground by pulling it with Accio.
- Pass through the portal to turn it into a chest.
Another Pensieve Guardian
When you’ve completed the tasks, proceed to the large chamber. There, you’ll face off against several suits of armor. However, because of the portal mechanic, some will be invisible until you pass through. You’ll face another Pensieve Guardian boss after you’ve destroyed all of them. The biggest difference here is that its phase 2 attacks can be cast during the first phase.
Take out your enemy and proceed to the final room with a chest. Interact with the Pensieve and watch the cutscene to complete the Hogwarts Legacy Charles Rookwood’s Trial puzzles and quest.
