Where to Find Your Shovel in Baldur’s Gate 3

As you approach a suspicious dirt pile, your character will need to pass a perception check. If successful, you’ll see a visual representation of the mound. As long as you have a shovel in your inventory (carried by you or a companion), simply interact with the dirt pile. No need to equip the shovel – the game takes care of the digging animation once you initiate the action.
