Harrison Ford debuted the first Indiana Jones 5 trailer at D23
We are all thrilled that the King of Adventure has returned after a 19-year absence. James Mangold is bringing back the hard-punching, fedora-wearing, whip-cracking, and oh-so-tired Indiana Jones to the big screen. And he brought an action-packed trailer to the D23 Expo today to demonstrate how, at the age of 80, Harrison Ford can still make this stuff sing.
The trailer was jam-packed with images of Jones exploring the archives, conducting lectures, and slamming Nazis in the face. John Rhys-Davies, a stalwart of the series, is also present and delivers a monologue about how it’s time for Indy to leave the classroom and return to the adventure. Given how many shots of a young Indiana Jones are in this trailer, it appears that there is some de-aged footage of Harrison Ford. And we must admit that it looks fantastic.
“Thank you for making this film such a incredible experience for all of us,” Harrison Ford said through tears from the panel’s stage . “I’m very proud to say that this one is fantastic, and this is one of the reasons, Indiana Jones is about mystery and adventure but they’re also about heart. We have a really human story to tell. A movie that will kick your ass. So I’m delighted to be here again. Maybe for…” leaving “the last time” hanging in the air, implying that this will be his final appearance as the character.
He also praised co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge while discussing the efforts made to give Indy a fresh opponent in this final major outing. “I had the time of my life,” Phoebe Waller Bridge said. “Keeping up with [Harrison Ford] is exhausting.”
