Gwen Stefani has opened up on how she found it hard returning to work with band No Doubt because of her family life. Gwen, who has two young sons with Gavin Rossdale, says the band’s reunion was at first hard because she had to split her time between recording and spending time with her children, something she found difficult to handle but it was also something that pushed her to get the work done:
”We were only able to get together three days a week and, because I had the kids, there was only a limited amount of time. I was exhausted by the time I got there, so it was a struggle trying to weigh and balance everything out with the kids. But it was that fight that made the record so great.”
She also remembers how hard to was to do a solo tour after giving birth to her son Kingston because she was still breastfeeding and waking up during the night while on the tour which made the traveling even harder for her:
”I went round the world with Kingston on my own and that was really hard. I was nursing him for 14 months so I would nurse, go on stage and wake up through the night and on the bus, and it was just like, ‘What am I doing?’ It was so hard.”
No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont admits that many of the band members now have kids to look after but it’s something that has made creating their new record even more rewarding and pleasurable:
”There’s a lot of kids between us so we’re pulled in many different directions but we’re so proud of this record and we put a lot of time into it.”
