The whispers are true, brave warriors! Legendary Fiends, formidable optional bosses, lurk within each region of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. This guide equips you with the knowledge to unlock these challenging encounters and emerge victorious.
Who are the Legendary Fiends in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
These imposing foes pose a serious threat, testing your combat prowess and strategic thinking. But fear not, for the rewards are plentiful. Legendary Fiends not only offer a hefty dose of XP, but also yield unique crafting materials and contribute to quest completion.
The beauty lies in their flexibility. You can tackle them at your own pace, revisiting previous regions as you progress through the story. Additionally, these fiends can be re-fought for more rewards – a boon for dedicated treasure hunters.
How to Unlock
Before these fiendish foes will show their fangs, you’ll need to locate all the Lifesprings in a region. These glowing green mako crystals, typically 4 or 6 per zone, are your key.
There are a few ways to hunt them down:
- Follow the hooting owls: Keep your ears peeled! An owl’s hoot signals a nearby Lifespring when you’re close.
- Activate marked towers: Look for towers on your map and complete the short minigame that unlocks them. Don’t miss the valuable resources these towers offer!
How to Defeat
Tonberry King (Corel Region)
- Level: 31
- Strategies:
- Beware the Tonberry King’s lethal knife attack. It can also employ a Stop spell, leaving you vulnerable. Ranged attacks pose a threat as well, potentially freezing you in place before delivering a fatal blow.
- Dodge the knife and counter with high-damage offensive abilities to pressure the Tonberry King. When it loses its crown, it becomes vulnerable and attempts to retrieve it slowly. Use this window to unleash powerful attacks with Bonus Rounds (Barret) and Unfettered Fury (Tifa) to maximize stagger damage.
- The Tonberry King summons smaller Tonberries to assist it. Prioritize eliminating these minions with Barret’s ranged attacks to avoid being paralyzed by their magic.
- After knocking the crown off, use Steal to permanently pressure the Tonberry King and acquire the Pristine Crown. This crown is necessary for Johnny’s Sidequest in Costa Del Sol.
Mindflayer (Junon Region)
- Level: 26
- Strategies:
- Employ Synergy abilities to overpower and stagger the Mindflayer. Switch characters frequently to build your Synergy gauge. Each ABT command used contributes one point to the gauge.
- A full Synergy gauge unlocks devastating Synergy Attacks. These powerful attacks are key to defeating the Mindflayer.
The Great Malboro (Gongaga Region)
- Level: 38
- Strategies:
- When the Great Malboro uses Rancid or Bad Breath, a new target – its mouth – will appear. Immediately switch focus and hit it with Ice Materia to interrupt its attack and build pressure.
- Don’t let it unleash poison breath attacks for too long, or the entire arena will be filled with a noxious haze.
- The Great Malboro can permanently remove a party member from the fight until it’s Staggered. Keep an eye on its attacks for the telltale sign of the mouth appearing, then unload everything you have to interrupt its powerful poison attack.
Jabberwock (Cosmo Canyon Region)
- Level: 45
- Strategies:
- When the Jabberwock activates Gorgon Shield, unleash all your offensive abilities and Fire Materia to break through its defenses.
- Be prepared to use healing spells to counter Stone. This attack persists until healed, so act fast!
- When the Jabberwock stomps for Raze or other ground-based attacks, watch for the yellow particles marking the affected area and dodge quickly. Guarding can also help if you’re caught off guard.
- Fire Materia is highly effective in pressuring the Jabberwock. Use abilities like Barret’s Bonus Round or Tifa’s Unfettered Fury to maximize pressure damage.
Quetzalcoatl (Grasslands Region)
- Level: 22
- Strategies:
- This feathered fiend succumbs to Blizzard-based attacks. Equip Blizzard Materia or unlock Blizzard through Folios. Healing Materia and plenty of healing items are crucial.
- Utilize Cloud’s Triple Slash to stay airborne. As long as you keep attacking, Cloud will remain aloft, allowing you to maneuver across the arena and target the fiend with ease.
- When Quetzalcoatl transitions between air and ground, brace for a powerful attack. Hold down the guard button (L1) to minimize damage.
King Zu (Nibel Region)
- Level: 43
- Strategies:
- Destroying at least one of King Zu’s wings is crucial to prevent it from charging Swan Song. Focus all your attacks, including Synergy Materia or Limit Breaks, on taking down those wings.
- Alternatively, you can use Reraise Materia to survive the inevitable Swan Song. After revival, a single attack will be enough to finish off the weakened King Zu. Revival Earrings or the Phoenix Summon can also achieve the same effect.
By following these tips and exploiting the Legendary Fiends’ weaknesses, you’ll be well on your way to conquering these formidable challenges in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Remember, preparation and strategy are key to emerging victorious!
