Want to catch a Griffin on your Island Sanctuary in FFXIV? This guide will walk you through every step of catching this newest creature.

FFXIV Guide – How to Catch a Griffin in Island Sanctuary

The Makeshift Soporific is a tool designed specifically for capturing large animals such as the Griffin, and it is required to start the process. To make the soporific, you’ll need the following ingredients and a Rank 8 Island Sanctuary:

  • 2 Island Laver
  • 1 Island Sap
  • 2 Island Jellyfish

Once crafted, you can equip the Makeshift Soporific after switching to Capture mode.

The Griffin is even more elusive than other rare spawns because it depends on both time of day and weather conditions to appear. This means that you may only have a few opportunities per day to catch them, and those opportunities may be extremely brief.

Visit the high mountain peaks near the (X: 14, Y: 22) coordinates between 3 and 6 p.m. Eorzean Time during “Clear Skies” weather to see the magnificent bird. You can land on its perch once you reach Rank 10 and enable flying in your Island Sanctuary.FFXIV catch GriffinIf you approach the Griffin from behind and use the Makeshift Soporific on it, you might be able to catch it. If you’re successful, the Griffin will be back in your Island Sanctuary’s pasture, where he can enjoy some free time with the rest of your domesticated animals. Keep them well-fed and content, and every day they will leave behind Sanctuary Feather droppings for you to collect.
