FaZe Clan, the esports and creator organization that went public this summer, has chosen gaming platform The Sandbox to create and host a virtual world that will serve as the gaming company’s metaverse home. The Sandbox, in collaboration with FaZe Clan, will co-create experiences for the FaZe community through digital infrastructure, virtual events, games, and digital product releases. This collaboration will pave the way for a gamified “FaZe World” that will allow users to interact with FaZe Clan and FaZe talent.

FaZe World is set to launch next year and will include a variety of digital goods and experiences designed to connect FaZe Clan creators with fans. FaZe plans to sell the digital real estate surrounding FaZe World — a 12×12 plot of digital land in The Sandbox — as part of its partnership with The Sandbox, allowing fans to become virtual neighbors to one of the largest and most well-known esports brands.FaZe Clan CEO Lee Trink stated to THR in July that the company was trying to expand its footprint into Web3 and the metaverse. In a chat last week, he described the Sandbox partnership as the company’s “first big swing” in the metaverse. Despite the fact that other companies, such as iHeartMedia, have launched virtual worlds in gaming platforms such as Fortnite and Roblox, Trink says FaZe chose The Sandbox as a partner in part because of its creator revenue share model, in which creators who sell their NFTs on The Sandbox’s marketplace receive 95 percent of the proceeds.

“We’re very simpatico in how we view the world,” Trink said. “It seems like a very creator-friendly environment.”
FaZe was founded in 2010 as a group of Call of Duty players, but it has since grown to become a major organization in the entertainment and gaming industries. Snoop Dogg joined FaZe’s board of directors and client roster in March, bringing the total to more than 100.

“Gaming is so foundational to every description of essentially every metaverse,” Trink said. “Who better to usher in gaming creators and the gaming community [into the metaverse] than FaZe Clan?”
