Fantasy injury Week 8 updates: JK Dobbins, Darren Waller,
- JK Dobbins
UPDATE 3: Dobbins (knee) is OUT for Week 7 and will have arthroscopic knee surgery, which will keep him out for four to six weeks.
UPDATE 2: According to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, Dobbins (knee) did not practice on Friday. His availability for Week 8 is in doubt because fellow RB Kenyan Drake will have a heavier workload.
UPDATE: According to Melissa Y. Kim, Dobbins (knee) missed practice for the second straight day on Thursday, complicating his situation for Week 7.
According to Jamison Hensley of ESPN, Dobbins (knee) was one of eight Ravens players who did not participate in practice on Wednesday. Due to a tight knee, the youthful running back was unable to participate in the second half of last week’s game against the Giants.
In little play, Dobbins only gained 15 yards on seven carries. Kenyan Drake, who had his best game as a Raven last week against New York, may need to be started in fantasy football if he is unable to play or is limited on Sunday. Dobbins and Drake are both projected as RB2s with a tremendously advantageous matchup versus the Browns depending on who gets the start.
Baltimore could potentially have two fantasy-relevant running backs depending on who is back and how the touches are distributed this week against Cleveland’s defense, which is allowing the third-most fantasy points to RBs this season (26.5) and 131.5 rushing yards per game. Watch the injury reports carefully as Justice Hill (hamstring) and Gus Edwards (knee) may also enter this equation.
- Darren Waller
UPDATE 2: Waller (hamstring) has been ruled out for the Raiders’ Week 7 game against the Texans.
UPDATE: According to Tashan Reed of The Athletic, Waller (hamstring) missed practice for the second consecutive day on Thursday.
As a result of missing Wednesday’s Las Vegas practice due to a hamstring injury, Waller’s availability for the Raiders’ Week 7 game against the Texans is uncertain.
Waller left the game against Kansas City in the first half of Week 5 for Las Vegas, and his absence from practice on Wednesday after the Raiders’ bye week raises some questions. We’ll have to wait and see if he can practice again on Thursday or Friday, but at least Foster Moreau, another tight end, was able to work in part on Wednesday. Waller, who entered Week 7 as the overall TE20 in PPR formats, has unluckily been one of the greater disappointments at the TE position this season. When he’s active, he’s still a must-start, and Moreau would make a respectable streamer if Waller was unavailable.
- Rashod Bateman
UPDATE 2: Bateman (foot) has been listed as “questionable” for Week 7.
UPDATE: According to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, Bateman (foot) practiced on Thursday, increasing his chances of returning to the field this Sunday.
Bateman (foot) returned to practice in a limited capacity after missing the previous two weeks. If he is able to return to the field against Cleveland this week, he is a WR3 in both standard and PPR formats as the team’s No. 2 passing option.
Bateman has been Baltimore’s best big-play threat, averaging 22.1 yards per reception (third among WRs), and he could put up a respectable fantasy stat line in his return against a Browns defense that has allowed the 13th most fantasy points per game.
