Disney Lorcana reveals Olaf card
Earlier this week, the Disney Lorcana Twitter account tweeted an image of their first Olaf card, which will most likely be released as part of the card game’s first set next fall. While we’re still a long way from seeing the entirety of its first release, The First Chapter, it’s encouraging to see new cards are on the way.

Olaf is an Amethyst Ink card that is described as a “Ally” card and does not appear to have any abilities. This is the second new card type to be revealed in as many weeks, following the “Action” card, which was revealed on social media last week. Other character cards with the “Hero” and “Villain” keywords, as well as a specific type of “Born” descriptor, such as “Storyborn,” “Dreamborn,” and “Floodborn,” were previously revealed at D23.
The upcoming Disney Lorcana collectible card game, which is set to be released next year, appears to be a potential competitor for games like Magic: The Gathering and the Pokemon Trading Card Game. Few details, such as how gameplay will work, have yet to be revealed, but early preview cards sold at D23 are fetching high prices on eBay. Each player in the game is described as a “Illumineer,” a sorcerer who can summon various characters from Disney’s many stories. Characters summoned by players are “Glimmers” of real-life Disney characters, and the game will include quests and an overarching storyline. A robust Organized Play system will also support Disney Lorcana, easing newcomers to trading card games into the play experience.
Ryan Miller, a veteran game designer, expressed his delight at seeing Disney Lorcana come to life. “I always say that making games is kind of like that feeling you get when you bought someone a gift and they haven’t gotten it yet, and you’re excited for them to open it,” Miller said. It’s that kind of excitement that I feel every time I work on a game, and I’ve never been more excited about any game I’ve worked on before Disney Lorcana.”
Disney Lorcana will be available in the fall of 2023.
