Demi Lovato has spoken on claims that she used cocaine in the past before spending time in rehab for several issues including an eating disorder. Although the actress and singer says she prefers not to talk about it, she does admit that after performing she often felt lonely and like she was on a “down” and needed to get “up”:
“It’s something I don’t really want to talk about. What I can say is that I was depressed. I would come off stage in front of 18,000 people and suddenly be alone in a hotel room. I’d come crashing down and would try and find a way to recreate that feeling to stay up.”
Demi reveals that club and restaurant promoters would offer her free drugs and alcohol in order to get her to make an appearance at their business. She confused this for friendship at the time, but now knows better and points out that this kind of behavior is really dangerous for celebs to get involved in:
“Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my a**. I thought they were my friends. I thought I was having fun. Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says ‘no’. That’s why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me.”
