Irish actor Colin Farrell, who in 2007 revealed that his eldest son James suffers from ‘Angelman Syndrome’ a neuro-genetic disorder with symptoms including intellectual and developmental disability, has now spoken more on the subject of his son and how happy he is with every development he achieves. Colin emotionally says that they celebrate the “smallest victories” together:
”We share in the smallest victories; the first words at age six or seven, being able to feed oneself at 19, and getting the seizures under control. When James took his first steps at age four, I nearly broke in half!”
Colin was inspired by the Special Olympics in 2007 to come forward and tell the world about his son’s disability in the hope that it may help other parents with children who need special care. He reveals that just like many other families, it has put them through a hard time but it has also been rewarding and enriched their lives:
‘It was at the Special Olympics in Shanghai in 2007 that I decided, after consulting with James’ mother, that I wanted to talk publicly about the pride and joy I had in our son. He has enriched my life, but I don’t want to minimise the trials that so many families go through; the fear, consternation, frustration, and pain.”
