‘X Factor UK’ judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has shared her top beauty advice, saying she has learnt a lot from working with professional makeup artists over the years. The singer reveals that getting makeup right is all about understanding your skin, specifically the tone of your skin and the colours that suit you. She explained her best advice:
“I’ve learned a lot from make-up artists over the years. You have to know your skin tone. I have quite an olive tone, so I have to be careful with pigments, especially in nude lipsticks. I can look washed-out or like I haven’t got any lips, so it’s been trial and error. “
Cheryl adds that being up to date with beauty trends is a part of her image and she has always enjoyed experimenting with beauty products. She remembers learning how to do her own eyeliner as a teenager which is her first memory of makeup:
“Beauty is a part of my career, so I’ve always got an eye on trends. I think my first memories of make-up are from when I was around 13 or 14 and I first tried to use a black eyeliner with a little inkwell. You would shake it and try to do a straight line on your eye, which takes a long time to master. I’d always use too much and end up having to wipe it all off and start again.”
She adds that she likes to keep skincare quite simple because her skin reacts to too much change:
“I like a facewash with a bit of exfoliant in it. If I’ve got a spot coming I use Sudocrem. My skin doesn’t like complication. I change body lotions quite a lot though – I like to use one with oil before bed so it has time to soak in.”
