Charlize Theron
Charlize recently adopted making her a single mom. The actress admits that most people don’t plan to fly solo when parenting but she isn’t worried about it because she’s living her dream: ”You know, I don’t think any mother aims to be a single mom. I didn’t wish for that, but it happened. I always knew I would adopt. Always.”
Speaking on how she raises her children and also gets the time to work, Denise says she tries to find a balance: “One of the questions I’m most often asked is how do I balance being a single working mom. I try to take the pressure off of myself of having to balance everything. It’s not always going to be that way and often something has to give. When I’m on set working long hours, I’m not always home for dinner. When my daughter has a soccer game on a Saturday, I make the choice to miss a work event. My children come first – they are my first priority … I like to think of it, at times, as organised chaos. I do my best to keep a harmonious home.”
January went back to work almost immediately after welcoming her son and says juggling her home life with her acting job can be hard:”I was back [at work] when the baby was only six or seven weeks old so it was difficult. It was difficult to be a working mom and just juggling all of that. But everyone made it work and it was great. They made it baby friendly for me, because I’m the first female on set to have a baby so I got to bring him. He had his own room and I was able to work around it because I was nursing.”
Kelis and rapper Nas divorced leaving her to raise son Knight as a single mother, which she says has it’s positive and negative sides: “It’s hard being a working single mother, but on the flipside, it’s awesome too. You only have to worry about yourself. It’s only your influence and your ideas. That’s not to say there’s not room for someone else to be involved, but at the moment I’m raising Knight how I think he should be raised. He’s a great baby.”
Kristin is already mother to one daughter as a single mother after she adopted. Speaking on her plans to possibly adopt another baby, Kristin says she wants to make sure she’s doing a good job as a single parent first: ”I had never thought about it because I was so kind of worried about the first. Once she came I was like, ‘Hey I can do this, this is okay’. So I mull it over, but because I’m a single mom, I want to focus on her and make sure I’m doing a good job first.”
