Taking control can be a powerful move to make, and these 5 stars are all addicted to being in charge, but in many different areas of their lives. Some are controlling when it comes to their career – they want to be the one making all of the decisions when it comes to selecting roles or seeing their scripts come to life. Others are controlling when it comes to their relationships. They want to be there for their children and are always setting boundaries, or they struggle with letting people in so they control how far the relationship goes until they know it’s safe. Some likes to be in charge when it comes to dating while others are just obsessed with plotting every detail of their lives before it happens!
Keira Knightley
Keira doesn’t like other people to be in control of her career because she wants to make decisions for herself: “I could get this, that and the other (person) and suddenly find that I’m not making any of the decisions. This is my name, my career, so I’ve got to be in some control. If I make a mistake, then I make a mistake. That’s life. I think I’m a control freak. You can’t let it all out of your hands and it keeps you in touch with real life. I’m the most disorganised person, but I’d rather be that than have somebody looking after me like a nanny. It would be freaky.”
Kelly Rowland
Kelly normally takes a front seat approach to dating which some men don’t like: “When I’m on a date, I’m very in charge. It’s like, ‘Hello my name is Kelly and I’m a bit of a control freak!’ Even when I go to dinner with my friends, I say, ‘OK, we’ll all order this and this and this, and I want this day to run like this’ I’d gotten away with it on some dates until recently when this guy actually made me be the woman, and I thought that was really cool.”
When it comes to relationships, Mariah finds it hard to trust people so she can be very controling until she knows she can let her guard down with someone: “I can be thought of as a control freak. Trust is always an issue for me. It’s never been easy for me to trust anybody, and that’s kind of a sad thing to say, but it’s true.”
Michelle Pfeiffer
When it comes to splitting time between work and home, Michelle had to learn how to control both areas of her life:”I think all women who work and have families struggle with finding the right balance. I’m such a control freak and I was able to juggle a lot until I had my first child. It was a rude awakening for me. It was the first time in my life I couldn’t do everything. I realised at that point that a person could have it all, but they can’t do it all. That’s a really hard adjustment for me. But there’s nothing more unpredictable and harder and humbling than being a parent.”
Ricky Gervais
Ricky likes to have full control over his creative projects: “I joke about it, but it is also true. I am a bit of a control freak. But I think in a good way. I think when you’re doing anything creative, it isn’t a democracy really. There’s no room for democracy. It’s not that I think that everything I do is definitively right, it’s that everything I do is the way I want it to be. That’s all. I like the process not the sitting back and watching it. I haven’t even watched ‘The Office’ since it went out on TV. It’s the creative process I enjoy. Nothing gives me an adrenalin rush like the idea. Nothing at all.”
