There is committing to a role, and then there’s going to extreme lengths to make yourself become another person for a role. Jared Leto opted for the latter option when approaching his part as a transsexual with AIDS for his part in ‘Dallas Buyers Club’, the same film which has Matthew McConaughey walking around like he’s a breathing skeleton. Jared has lost copious amounts of weight, shaved off his eyebrows and has to wear a lot of makeup for the dramatic part. Commenting on the hardest part – the weight loss, Jared reveals that he went through “weird stages” when fasting but it was all done so he could represent the character as best as he can:
“Your body goes through weird stages [when fasting], sometimes it’s hard to hold on to water. But for me, it’s not about the most weight I can lose, it’s more to represent the character. I’m focused on what it means to be a transsexual woman.”
