These 5 celebrities are sick of people’s weight making headlines. Some are tired of having their own figure constantly bashed or commented on, while others are just more generally concerned for Hollywood’s crazy weight ideals and the way the media always makes out weight gain and weight loss into big stories, not even caring what state they are in emotionally or how these negative comments effect the sensitive star in question. These 5 celebrities have all been on the receiving end of weight criticism and don’t believe that that kind of negativity should be created by the media over something so trivial.
Angelina Jolie
Angelina doesn’t like that the media care more about what weight someone is than what they’re going through: “The thing that’s disturbing is that instead of people saying, ‘This looks like a person that’s actually dealing with something, probably from emotions,’ they say: ‘Does she fit into skinny jeans and look thin?'”
Tori Spelling
Tori constantly feels paranoid that the paparazzi are after negative images regarding her weight: “The first time I went out after I had Liam, the paparazzi were around and I remember trying to hold my stomach in, even though my muscles were shot to hell, because it’s not like they want a story, ‘Look at the happy couple, they just had a baby,’ they want, ‘Do you see her stomach? We thought she already had the baby.’But I always say the weeklies build you up to tear you down. It’s a funny cycle. The week before they were asking, ‘Is she too thin?’ they showed a picture of me in a bikini on the beach saying I looked great.”
Renee Zellweger
Renee felt that her weight was so regularly the focal point of her career and she was sick of it: “Every day I get asked for advice about how to lose weight. I hate discussing food. I hate discussing gaining weight to play Bridget as if it was martyrdom. It really disappoints me. I got chased through Heathrow airport a few months ago because a guy wanted to get a photograph of my backside. He wanted to document the revisitation of the Bridget Jones bum. I’m either too skinny or my bum’s too big. Whichever way you look as a woman you’ll be made fun of.”
Kelly Clarkson
Kelly is sick of being made into a fat joke by the media: “For seven years it’s been happening. It’s like, ‘Okay, cool the fat joke’. I love my body. I’m very much OK with it. I don’t think artists are ever the ones who have the problem with their weight, it is other people.”
Jamie Lee Curtis
Jamie feels as though young people are being influenced negatively by all the media attention put on weight: “It’s sick what’s happening. Younger and younger people are changing the way they look. Nobody looks good, everybody looks freakish, everybody’s talking about it and nobody’s saying it to their faces. I think there’s something pervasive that is in every area of showbusiness, maybe in every area of society period, that you are not enough, that you have to inherently change who you are in order to compete.”
