Salma Hayek used to think people who were married were all secretly miserable and she was skeptical about tying the knot. She believed that marriage couldn’t work and that those who were married were only sticking it out for the kids:
“I didn’t think marriage worked, I thought everybody who was married was secretly miserable – that it was something they just put up with for their children.”
After she married François-Henri Pinault in 2009, her attitude to marriage has changed and she now knows it can work with the right person. She feels that she can be herself with her husband and they both help each other in equal measures while appreciating everything that they do for each other:
“I have a master of decision-making helping me out, so of course my life and my career are better, I really enjoy having somebody that I can be weak with. If I’m insecure or afraid, I can talk about it, and he’ll give me strength and courage. With us, there’s no power struggle. I don’t mind doing things for him because he does so much for me, and he feels the same way.”
