Soulmask Survival Guide: How to Fix Crashes & Ultrawide Display Woes

Soulmask, the new early access survival game on Steam, might be experiencing some growing pains. If you’re one of the unfortunate players facing crashes, don’t despair! This guide offers solutions to get you back in the game.

How to Fix Soulmask Crashes

The developers have acknowledged crashing issues and provided some official fixes:

  • Update your graphics card drivers.
  • Verify the integrity of your Steam game files.
  • Log out of Steam and log back in.

While the official solutions helped some players, others found success with these methods:

  • Restart your PC: A simple restart can often work wonders.
  • Temporarily disable antivirus software (with caution!): Antivirus might mistakenly flag Soulmask. Remember to re-enable it afterwards for protection.
  • Reinstall the game (last resort): A complete reinstall can fix issues, but only attempt this after trying other solutions. Soulmask’s download size shouldn’t be too large with a decent internet connection.

If none of these solutions work, the developers recommend joining the game’s official Discord server. The Soulmask community is a valuable resource for troubleshooting, finding resources, and discovering strategies for the game’s mechanics.

How to Fix Soulmask for Ultrawide Displays

Soulmask currently lacks an FOV (field of view) slider. This means you can’t adjust the camera zoom in-game to match your ultrawide monitor. The result? A frustratingly zoomed-in view that hinders your gameplay experience.

Until the developers implement a proper fix, here’s a solution discovered by the Soulmask community:

  1. Search for “Run” and open it. Type “%localappdata%” and click OK.
  2. Follow this path: AppData\Local\WS\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor.
  3. Locate the Engine.ini file and open it with a text editor like Notepad.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the file and add a new line that says “[/script/engine.localplayer]“.
  5. On the next line, type “AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV“.
  6. Save the Engine.ini file.

This trick won’t magically create perfect FOV support. It’s a workaround until the developers implement a proper fix. However, the Soulmask team has acknowledged the issue on the Steam forums and promised to address it during Early Access. Hopefully, a future patch will bring true ultrawide compatibility.

Remember: Soulmask is Early Access, so expect some bumps along the road. However, with the community’s ingenuity and the developer’s commitment to improvement, a smooth ultrawide experience should be on the horizon. Until then, grab your friends, explore the world (even in a slightly zoomed-in view!), and conquer the challenges of Soulmask!
