FOR THE KNICKS
When the clubs play Game 6 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series on Friday night in Miami, the New York Knicks will seek to prevent the Miami Heat from writing their name into NBA history.
With its back against the wall, fifth-seeded New York fought back on Wednesday, winning 112-103 to cut the best-of-seven series deficit to 3-2.
The decision prevented Miami from becoming only the second No. 8 seed to reach the conference finals, and the first since the New York Knicks did so in the spring of 1999.
After Jalen Brunson filled the stat book for New York on Wednesday, coach Tom Thibodeau was quick to credit him.
Brunson finished the game with 38 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists while playing all 48 minutes.
Prior to Wednesday’s game, Brunson informed reporters that there had been no conversation regarding his extended workload.
Brunson wasn’t alone, as fellow guard Quentin Grimes also played the entire 48 minutes.
Julius Randle scored 24 points, grabbed five rebounds, and assisted five times just two days after openly questioning whether the Heat “wanted it more” than the Knicks.
