Matthew McConaughey’s outlandish claim that he and Woody Harrelson MIGHT BE BROTHERS was confirmed by Harrelson, who then demanded a DNA test

Matthew McConaughey’s outlandish claim that he and Woody Harrelson might be brothers was confirmed by Harrelson, who then called for a DNA test despite McConaughey’s reluctance to take it.

Woody Harrelson backs up Matthew McConaughey’s outlandish claim that they might be brothers and wants a DNA test

The 61-year-old actor addressed the allegations during a Tuesday night appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert with his co-star in White Plumbers, Justin Theroux.

After talking to McConaughey’s mom, Mary Kathlene McCabe, Harrelson said he began to consider the possibility that his former co-star, now 53 years old, was actually his brother.

He explained: ‘Well, I’ll just say there is some veracity to that thought because we talked to Ma’ Mac, Matthew’s legitimate mother, and she let us know one time…I mean, this is crazy.

‘We were in Greece watching the U.S. team win the World Cup and I don’t know, I mentioned something about regrets. And I said, “You know, it’s odd that my father has no regrets.” And I have known Ma’ Mac a long time, and she goes, “I knew… your father.” And it was the ellipses I found a little troubling, or interesting. “I knew your father.”

The pause – which Colbert joked was a ‘pregnant pause’ – which Harrelson said was ‘filled with innuendo’ got him thinking, according to Harrelson.

The actor continued: ‘The year of [Matthew’s] birth, nine months before, she was on a sabbatical from her relationship with his supposed father, Jim.’

McConaughey previously revealed that he was hesitant to take a DNA test, but Harrelson doesn’t seem to share his apprehension.

He said: ‘We want to go for a [DNA] test, but for him, it’s a much more big deal.

‘I mean he feels like he is losing a father. But I’m like, no, you’re gaining a different father and a brother.’

This comes after the actor suggested they might be connected by pointing to a recently rediscovered photo.

The 53-year-old Oscar winner previously revealed that he believes his mother had a sexual relationship with Woody’s hitman father Charles, based on cryptic comments made by Mary about her acquaintance with the late criminal.

And a 2019 photo of longtime pals Matthew and Woody bears an uncanny resemblance to their on-screen characters in the Apple TV+ comedy series Brother From Another Mother.

Matthew remarked on the Let’s Chat Off Camera podcast with Kelly Ripa: ‘In Greece a few years ago, we’re sitting around talking about how close we are and our families. And my mom is there, and she says, “Woody, I knew your dad.” Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after “knew”. It was a loaded K-N-E-W.

‘We went on to unpack what this “knew” meant, and did some math and found out that [Woody’s] dad was on furlough at the same time that my mom and dad were in their second divorce.

‘Then there’s possible receipts and places out in West Texas where there might have been a gathering, or a meeting, or a “knew” moment.’

They are reluctant to undergo a DNA test, but Matthew has revealed that his mother’s comment regarding Woody’s father, who died in prison in 2007, encouraged him to look into his family tree.

He said: ‘You know, where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and I end, has always been like a murky line. And that’s part of our bromance, right?

‘My kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew. And you see pictures of us and my family thinks a lot of pictures of him are me. His family thinks a lot of pictures of me are him.’

In the podcast, the Interstellar star added: ‘Look, it’s a little easier for Woody to say, “Come on, let’s do [DNA tests],” because what’s the skin in it for him?’

‘It’s a little harder for me because he’s asking me to take a chance to go, “Wait a minute, you’re trying to tell me my dad may not be my dad after 53 years of believing that?” I got a little more skin in the game.’

Woody’s mother, Diane Lou Oswald, is still alive and well 16 years after Woody’s father, Charles, died of a heart attack in prison.

After Charles was convicted and given a life sentence for the 1979 murder of Judge Wood Jr. in San Antonio, Texas, Woody paid him monthly visits up until Charles’ death at the age of 69.

Woody stated this about his dad: ‘He is one of the most articulate, well-read charming people I’ve ever known.

‘Still, I’m just now gauging whether he merits my loyalty or friendship. I look at him as someone who could be a friend more than someone who was a father.’
