Sally Phillips has revealed that she purposefully overdressed when she reluctantly agreed to a sex scene with Vinnie Jones in the 2001 film Mean Machine.

Sally Phillips reveals that she purposefully wore ‘loads of layers’ for her sex scene with Vinnie Jones

In an interview with a reporter, the actress stated: ‘There was a scene which Time Out [magazine] called ‘the shortest, most gratuitous sex scene in cinema history.

‘I swear I was supposed to just have sex with Vinnie Jones over a desk for no apparent reason, and I was terrified about this because I have never been the grand beauty, and always had crippling body shyness.

‘And so I had a plot with the girls in Costume. I had loads and loads of layers and little, tiddly buttons, and so Vinnie literally could not unwrap me.

‘And he went, “Ah, f*** this for a game of soldiers”, and just pushed my head down under the desk, which made it more gratuitous.’

It comes after Sally openly discussed her eldest son Olly’s Down Syndrome diagnosis, praising his ‘amazing’ emotional abilities.

The Miranda star is an advocate for the Down’s Syndrome community, having collaborated with several charities and the BBC on a documentary in 2016.

On Thursday, the star opened up about her son Olly, 18, and his diagnosis in a new interview with Big Issue.

Sally revealed that, despite the fact that others thought “the world had ended” at the time, Olly grew up to be generous and kind-hearted.

She said: ‘Everyone around me was behaving like the world had ended, and that was very unhelpful.

‘My son has an amazing ability to see what’s really important to the other person. He’s the one who finds the person who is left out in a group.

‘He’ll see when I’m unhappy before I realise it. He’s not magic. He’s just a boy. But he’s very emotionally aware.’

She went on to say that one of her happiest memories was dancing in Olly’s bedroom with her three sons to Shakira’s Waka Waka when the boys were young.

Olly was not diagnosed with Down syndrome until he was ten days old, when he was not feeding and rapidly losing weight, dropping from eight pounds to three pounds.

Sally stated in a 2020 interview that she wanted Olly to have two siblings because she “didn’t want to leave one sibling as a caregiver.”

When asked about the moment she found out Olly had Down’s syndrome, she said: ‘ We got called back into A&E and the doctor said “I’m just going to run some tests for Down’s syndrome”. I said “what?” and he said “I’m sorry” and I just went into shock.

‘The shock I went into was shaking and the actress part of me was like this is so interesting. I am flapping like I’m trying to do an impression of a goose trying to take off a lake, that’s so strange. Then they had to take blood from my baby.’

Sally stated that, while she was initially ‘devastated,’ having Olly has made her and her family’s lives more ‘meaningful,’ and she offered advice to parents of children with Down syndrome.

She said: ‘The way it tends to go is, that it is a tremendous shock, and you do feel devastated for a bit but everybody not only adjusts but quite often their lives are more meaningful and happier for having the person with Down’s syndrome in it.

‘Within a certain period, within a year. I think presenting it as a big tragedy stops parents bonding.

‘I think it’s just really important that it’s presented to parents as “listen you are going to feel really bad and really frightened for a bit but it’s vanishingly rare for people to not to be delighted with their new family member”.
