Two of the best teams in the Western Conference meet Sunday in the final regular season game as the Denver Nuggets host the Sacramento Kings.
The Nuggets lead the Western Conference, while the Kings are third with a record of 48-33. This season, these two rivals have split two games. The game begins at 3:30 p.m. EDT at Denver’s Ball Arena.
Injury Update for Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings have limped to the finish line, having lost three of their previous four games.
They get a pass because they have locked up the third seed and have little chance of catching the second seeded Grizzlies. So there’s not much at stake here.
They were defeated by the Warriors 119-97 on Friday night, but the Warriors were still in the hunt for a guaranteed playoff spot.
As a result, they fielded a starting lineup that included Alex Len, Davion Mitchell, and Terrence Davis. Chimezie Metu and Trey Lyles led the bench scorers with 15 points each.
Domantas Sabonis (ankle) will play against the Nuggets on Sunday.
Sabonis missed Friday’s game due to right ankle soreness, but he should be fine for Sunday’s season finale.
Given that both the Nuggets and the Kings are locked into their respective seeds, Sabonis may be given a lighter workload.
The Denver Nuggets have been the best team in the Western Conference from start to finish, and they appear to have locked up the top seed in the West for months.
Will the fact that they cruised to the top seed hurt them in the playoffs? We’ll find out soon enough.
Because the Nuggets aren’t playing any of their starters right now, it’s difficult to draw conclusions based on players like Peyton Watson, Christian Braun, and Deandre Jordan.
To put it another way, none of the Nuggets’ starters are expected to play on Sunday. Reggie Jackson or Bruce Brown could be the best player they use.
Because both teams are locked into their respective seeds, Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray can reduce their workload or even take a break in this match.
